The first batch of parts are back from annodization, so we are able to start putting all the pieces together for Killick, our 2011-2012 competition vehicle. This is a very exciting process for the team to see our year-long effort taking shape. We are currently waiting for the second batch of parts to come back so we can all continue building Killick.

On Saturday, March 10, 2012, CUAUV collaborated with SWE to host the Girl Scout Workshop. The girl scouts went through a series of activities at different stations including the water tricks, lab tour, newspaper bridge building and kaleidoscope making stations to earn their badges (and have fun doing so). Parents of the scouts got a chance to talk to a panel of members of CUAUV and SWE about the different kinds of engineering and what engineering is in general. The event was very successful.

On March 3, 2012, CUAUV gave a tour of the lab and presented about the team and vehicle to a group of high school students as part of the SWE-coordinated TSA Teams engineering competition. The students were very interested in learning about how our vehicle works.

Last Saturday, CUAUV gave a presentation at the Ithaca Sciencenter. The presentation turned out very well; we talked about the team and the vehicle as well as give demos of what the vehicle can do such as shoot torpedos. The demos really got the children excited. We are happy to be part of a great event and hope to participate again in the next semester.

Tonight, we presented to the boy scout troops about the team and the vehicle. The presentation turned out very well with the young scouts very excited to learn more about the vehicle.

CUAUV will most likely be hosting a Boy Scouts Workshop either this semester or next fall semester in addition to the Girl Scouts Workshop on March 10.

As the new semester starts, CUAUV has been working hard on completing the 2012 vehicle, Killick. The team had finished preparing the major parts of the vehicle!

Welcome back everyone! CUAUV is glad to be back to Cornell for the spring 2012 semester. We hope this semester will be as eventful and successful as we come closer to the AUVSI/ONR Underwater Vehicle competition. Stay tuned for more updates.

2011 Fall Newsletter

We are now into the last week of classes. So far, much progress has been made by the different teams of CUAUV. We were able to complete most of the semester’s goals and are planning ahead for the spring semester.

On November 20, 2011, CUAUV hosted its annual Open Pool Test at Teagle Pool, showcasing its 2011 competition vehicle, Drekar, to the public. The audience was treated to light refreshments as they watched Drekar glide through obstacle courses, shoot torpedoes, and complete image recognition tasks. Thank you to everyone who came to the Open Pool Test, and we look forward to seeing everyone again in our future promotional events!
