Vehicle Transport Unit

The previous vehicle transport was a standard Radio Flyer wagon with multiple catalogs and phone books stacked up to support Proteus by its skids. The bow and stern skid catalogs were not the same height so the vehicle did not actually rest on both sets of catalogs; rather, it rested on the battery pod mounts and on one side of the skids. There was no way to secure the vehicle in the wagon so someone would have to hold on to the vehicle while the wagon was being pulled. Finally, because the catalog stacks took up so much of the wagon bed there was only a small amount of space left to store support equipment for testing.

High Level Design

The new wagon transport consists of the same Radio Flyer wagon but with a mount for the vehicle attached to it. The vehicle is supported by two hinged doors attached to the lip of the wagon. Plastic blocks on the doors hold the vehicle skids in place, and two bungee cords prevent the vehicle from falling out of the blocks. The doors are supported to hold the weight of the sub, and because the doors are on the very top of the wagon the wagon bed is almost entirely open for storage.
