CUAUV advice for teams

A Cornell autonomous underwater vehicle team has competed yearly in the AUVSI competition since the third AUVSI competition in 2000 (see Team History). Over the years, CUAUV has accumulated a great deal of experience and a very well developed team structure that allows us to better pass on knowledge from year to year so that it is not lost when people graduate. This is a list of advice for new teams in the competition. It includes vendors that we go to first to look for products, internet and book references that we use in our design and implementation processes, and advice on how to build AUVs that run and seal properly.

Hints and Tips- Advice based on the experience of CUAUV

Sealing Manual- CUAUV's sealing manual, including information on characteristics of different types of o-ring seals; interpreting the parker o-ring handbook; cutting o-ring grooves; use of silicones, epoxies and urethans; CUAUV sealing protocols; and Troubleshooting leaks. Note that this is based off of the experience of our team and therefore is not the final word on the subject. The suggested design methods and protocols have worked for us, but might not work for every situation.
